Women's Ball Hockey NYC Hosts Ball Hockey Clinic for PS 129 and NYC Hockey Community
November 16, 2024
Women's Ball Hockey NYC (WBHNYC) brought the energy and passion of ball hockey to the vibrant community of PS 129, diverse NYC hockey enthusiasts, and eager first-time players, in a memorable clinic on Saturday. This event was far more than one day of games and drills: it was a celebration of community, teamwork, and the unifying power of sports.
A Day for All Ages and Abilities
The clinic welcomed participants as young as three years old, who enjoyed games like "What Time is it, Fox?" and "Red Light, Green Light," along with a fun-filled hockey obstacle course designed to foster coordination and peer support. The audible joy and laughter of these youngest participants set the tone for the day.
For the core group of female players, the clinic provided a unique opportunity to not only play together, but to connect with an all-female coaching staff. These inspiring coaches serve as role models, empowering young athletes and gifting them the ability to see themselves thriving in the sport.
The 8 & under group showcased their skills with an impressive display of teamwork and enthusiasm. Representing organizations such as PS 129 Ball Hockey, Ice Hockey in Harlem, and North Park, these players demonstrated the depth and diversity of NYC's hockey talent.
A Community United Through Hockey
The newly refurbished rink, courtesy of the NY Rangers, was the ideal venue for this event. Equipment provided by the NY Islanders ensured every player had access to the materials needed to succeed. WBHNYC then delivered an unforgettable experience. With coaches like Meghan Lavery from USA Ball Hockey leading the charge, the event truly showcased the incredible purpose, passion, and potential of the hockey community.
This clinic was a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines NYC hockey. From the youngest players to the seasoned coaches and organizers, the day reinforced the idea that hockey is more than a sport—it’s a community.
The Power of Working Together
The success of the clinic is a shining example of what’s possible when organizations come together to invest in the next generation of players. The joint efforts of Women's Ball Hockey NYC, the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and all the participating hockey programs, exemplify how collaboration creates opportunities and builds a stronger future for the sport in New York City.
As the echoes of laughter and cheers faded, one thing remained clear: NYC's hockey community is thriving, and its future is brighter than ever.
