What does it mean if a classroom is closed?
If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a classroom, all students and teachers in the affected class(es) with the individual who tested positive are considered “close contacts,” and will be notified of the need to quarantine for 10 days since the last contact with the person who tested positive. These students and teachers will transition to fully remote teaching and learning for this period. When the positive case is a staff member who has been in the school but has had no contact with children, that person and all close contacts will be told to quarantine, but no classes will be affected.
Please note that any case in this category will appear in this report daily until the quarantine period has ended.
What does it mean if the building is closed?
When two or more cases without a clear link are confirmed, the building is closed for at least 24 hours in order for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to perform an investigation.
Sometimes there are two or more cases in a building where it is not closed. In those cases, the New York City Test + Trace Corps has been able to identify a link between the cases.
Important reminders
Help keep our school community safe and healthy: stay home if sick, stay at least 6feet away from people who are not members of your household, wear a face covering, and practice healthy hand hygiene.
To ensure we can rapidly reach you via text and email, please set up a New York City Schools Account (NYCSA) as soon as possible by visiting schools.nyc.gov/nycsa. For additional information on COVID-19, visit schools.nyc.gov/coronavirus, or call 311.
Thank you for your cooperation. Health and safety will always come first in New York City public schools.
Sincerely,
