Covid Situation Room Letter

Greetings P.S. 129 John H. Finley at 425 WEST 130 STREET  Community,

This message is from the DOE COVID-19 Response Situation Room. Please see below for a summary of COVID-19 activity in your school building. The summary includes information from students and staff who are both in-person and fully remote, from all co-located schools in the building. All information reported below has been verified by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Total number of new COVID-19 cases confirmed between 7:00 AM and  7:06 PM

Total Number of Ongoing COVID-19 Confirmed Cases

This represents all new confirmed COVID-19 cases, and all old cases that still have members of your building quarantining.

No Intervention: A member of the school building has tested positive but the school community was not exposed.

Classroom Closed/Quarantine: Did a member of the school building test positive, and have members of the school community been quarantined?

Building Closed: Two or more unlinked positive cases in a school building.

What does it mean if a classroom is closed?

If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a classroom, all students and teachers in the affected class(es) with the individual who tested positive are considered “close contacts,” and will be notified of the need to quarantine for 10 days since the last contact with the person who tested positive. These students and teachers will transition to fully remote teaching and learning for this period. When the positive case is a staff member who has been in the school but has had no contact with children, that person and all close contacts will be told to quarantine, but no classes will be affected.

Please note that any case in this category will appear in this report daily until the quarantine period has ended.

What does it mean if the building is closed?

When two or more cases without a clear link are confirmed, the building is closed for at least  24 hours in order for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to perform an investigation.

Sometimes there are two or more cases in a building where it is not closed. In those cases, the New York City Test + Trace Corps has been able to identify a link between the cases.

Important reminders

Help keep our school community safe and healthy: stay home if sick, stay at least 6feet away from people who are not members of your household, wear a face covering, and practice healthy hand hygiene.
