Today was a truly special day at PS 129 as we welcomed back one of our most inspiring alumni, Preston James IV, in celebration of his remarkable journey from 129th Street to the global stage. A proud graduate of PS 129, Preston credits our school as the foundation of his 21-year educational journey — one that led him to become a sports agent, lawyer, nonprofit founder, college professor and most importantly a great role model.
Currently serving as a Professor of Sports Management and Business Law at Hesston College, Preston has dedicated his career to empowering students and building connections across the world through sports and education.
Preston was warmly welcomed by some of our our 5th Grade Global Scholars, who shared stories of their experiences and learning from participating in the e-classroom. In this unique learning space, they collaborate with peers from cities around the world: Astana, Karaganda, Madrid, Barcelona, Mumbai, Kazakhstan and Taipei. Together, they explore a variety of cultures while working on real-world local challenges—developing solutions and making revisions through meaningful international collaboration. Inspired by Preston’s powerful story of growth, perseverance, and purpose, our students were excited to connect with someone who truly embodies what it means to be a global communicator
Preston recently returned from Indonesia and Bali, where he led a group of Hesston College students on a cultural and educational exchange. He shared insights about his travels, the importance of respecting other cultures, and how sports and economics can open doors across the globe.
The auditorium was buzzing as grade 3-5 students listened, asked thoughtful questions, and wrapped up the presentation with a lively round of “PJ Trivia”. Afterward, Preston, his fiancée, and his student Santiago Gonzalez joined the students for a special meal in the cafeteria, continuing the day’s celebration and conversation.
We are incredibly proud of Preston James IV and grateful he took the time to give back to the place where it all began. His visit reminded our students that their dreams are valid and that with hard work, curiosity, and kindness, they too can achieve amazing things — whether in sports, global communications, or any path they choose.
